3 week migraine headache and 4 months of numbness on left left and left arm

My mother has been suffering from migraine headaches since she was a teenager. But for the past 2 years her migraines have been getting worse and she has been getting them almost everyday. About 4-5 months ago she started complaining about numbness in the left thigh and her left arm. And about a month ago she said that her hand was beginning to go numb as well. She has now had a 3 week long migraine and the numbness is constant. I took her to the hospital the first day the migraine started and she pasted out. The emergency doctor just medicated her and released her. About a day later I had to take her right back to the emergency room and once again the medicated her and sent her home. She did a follow up with her Neurologist and he increased her Topomax (topamax) from 25 mg to 100 mg. She had a horrible reaction to the increase and was rushed back to the hospital via ambulance. She is currently in the hospital still and I am just wondering is there something that the doctor aren't checking for is there something I can tell them to check for? I there something that we are all missing out on?
