A friend is experiencing

A friend of mine says she's experiencing hallucinations. What she said about it was this

"like darting shadows out of the corner of my eyes, glimpsing standing figures that aren't there when I double take, my features distorting in the bathroom mirror last night"

Well, I sometimes have peripheral vision changes, but this is because of some prescription medicines I take.  For a while, I got focused on what turned out to be seeing my hair out of the corner of my eye, and the mind works to make sense of stuff like that, and can turn it into something that isn't really there.  As for her features distoring in the mirror, if I stare long enough into a mirror, I can focus on my nose, for example, and it'll look funny.

Aside from prescription medicines, the most common reason and least scary has to do with how much solid REM sleep we get each night.  If a person is short on sleep, their eyes are tired, and as I said, the focus can become kind of faulty.  And then there's the computer wizards who spend too much time looking at a screen and do not rest their eyes enough, which everyone who uses a computer should get up periodically and look out a window to rest their eyes.

Now, if her situation does not jive with what I've mentioned so far, then she can visit any of three doctors, a neurologist if it's in her brain, an eye doctor if it's her eyes, and a psychiatrist if it's in her mind.  In addition, she should eat plenty of foods with Vitamin A in it, good for the eyes, and that includes carrots and sweet potatoes.  I hope your friend will stop having these unusual visuals, and hope my tips will steer her in the right direction.
