Hi,
In simple words, atrophy means loss of cells. In brain tissue, atrophy is significant by a loss of neurons or brain cells and the connections between them. Atrophy can be generalized, meaning that all of the brain is shrinking; or it can be localised, affecting only a limited area of the brain and resulting in a decrease of the functions controlled by that area of the brain. If the cerebral hemispheres or the two lobes of the brain that form the cerebrum are affected, conscious thought and voluntary processes may be impaired. Unfortunately there is no cure for the brain atrophy. Excellent nutrition consisting of supplements of multivitamins, multiminerals, calcium and Omega 3 fatty acids; and exercises of brain may help to delay the progression of the disease. Intellectual activities like reading, crossword puzzles, socialising and group activities may help in delaying the progression. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards.
