Muscle twitching, Vit B12

Hi
My son who is 24 has had muscle twitching in arms and neck and a feeling of a lump in throat that he can't clear.
He has been tested for thyroid, EMG, MRI's all negative.  His vit D and Vit B12 were low.  He has been taking 50,000 units of vit d for every week for a month and now is on one 50,000 unit once a month.  He had a vit b12 shot which didn't do anything. In fact he is now complaining of pain in the upper arm where it connects to body and across the chest area.

Is this from the B12 shots?

Dr can't find out why the muscle twitching, does anyone have any ideas on this?  He now has to see an ENT for the lump feeling in his throat.

Any ideas to bring to the dr would greatly be appreciated.  My son feels like he is falling apart and it is getting him down that nothing is being found.

Thank you
linjane

Hi, Thank you for your question. Most of the times these twitching symptoms occur without any underlying disorder & they are not harmful or may appear after anxiety, viral illness or long term illness like vitamin deficiency. But sometimes this muscle twitching appears as atrophy and weakness of muscle as well. Most likely cause of this twitching can be when the nerves supplying to muscles are not functioning properly due to any neurological disorder like neuropathy or nerve compression. Please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the possibilities here. Hope this information proves helpful to you. Take Care & Regards!!!

Hello linjane45-
I am a 29 year old female and I had the twitching and the lump in throat. I had an EMG and some blood tests and they came back normal. I was not experiencing pain except tightness in my throat and neck.
I was referred to a neurologist and was diagnosed with benign fasciculation syndrome. I was referred to an ENT and they diagnosed me with acid reflux.  My vocal chords were inflamed from the acid and that was causing my lump in throat feeling. I also admit that my anxiety level was very high.
Have they checked his parathyroid glands?
