Alcohol Neuropathy

Hi,

I've been a very heavy drinker & smoker for about 4 years now with very little exercise (lazing on the couch!). Over the past 2 months I have been suffering from severe pins & needles type sensation's in my toe's and cold type sensation in my finger's constantly.

Although I still have full mobility I have weak limb's in terms of my knee's and ankle's in particular.... actually, I have fallen over a couple of time's due to the weakness.

I've had a look around the net & it appears I may have alcohol neuropathy.

My question's really...

Apart from the vitamin B's (B1, B2, B6 & B12 I believe) is there anything else I can do to help out?

What sort of exercising should I participate in at the moment?

I woke up one morning & gave up alcohol just like that, could this be the reason for the problem's? Should I have stepped it down slowly?

Cheers.

Some people who drink excessively get malnutrition.  I know they do treat with B12 and thiamine.  I would see a doctor for some professional advice so you can get get well.  Yes you can overdose on vitamins.  A doctor could tell you what to take or not to take and the right amounts.

Hello yes it is possible to overdose on the vitamins only take one a day. As far as the alcohol it has  short after life so your probably through with the worst of the withdrawals but your body is going to take a lot of time to adjust to life without it. With that said you should start with very lite exercise and work your way up, maybe with a short walk everyday. Good luck and it takes a lot of courage to quite drinking I am proud of you!!!!!

Just an after thought/question really for anyone out there...

Can I overdose on vitamins?

I've been taking vitamin supplements in double dose for a couple of days now, does that cause more problems?

Thanks.
