Bacolfen

I know this woman who is ~45 years old and has MS. She has been taking 20mg of Baclofen 1 time daily for about 20 years. Recently she was taken off her Baclofen because a doctor (not her neurologist) felt she was fatigued. She didn't feel fatigued, nor did she exhibit such characteristics. About a week off the Baclofen she began to have increased tremors and frequent loss of balance. Her doctor (the one which took her off the med) is now going to represcibe it. Her dosage will now be 20mg twice day for 3 days, then 20mg three times daily for 3 days, and then back down to 20mg once daily. I was always under the impression that you have to gradually work up, but it seems she will be starting back two and three times what she was taking. Is this a new method to reintroduce Baclofen?

Hi Blondie,
How is your aunt feeling now?
The usual starting dose of baclofen for adults is 5 mg given three times daily.
Based on the response, the dose can be increased gradually every three days to a maximum of 80 mg/day in several doses.
The physician can increase or decrease the dosing schedule as per his experience and knowledge.
Keep me informed if you have any further queries.
Bye.
