Brain Tumor Radiation treatment

Brain Tumor Radiation treatment

A family member was diagnosed with a "benign/non-cancerous" brain tumor and will be starting radiation therapy.
Is radiation commonly used to treat benign brain tumors, and what is the success rate with such a treatment?

The tumor has impacted the muscles in her eye.

Yes, radiation is used on both benign and cancerous brain tumors.  It shrinks the size of the tumor, to where it hopefully will not affect those eye muscles in your family member anymore.  Surgery is also sometimes used to just get the tumor out of there, but apparently since it is near the eye structures, I am supposing they'd rather radiate it than take it out.  As for success rates, I am not sure, you can ask the neurosurgeon that question.  And any unwanted side effects should be reported to him, as well.
