Possible surgery?

I have been experiencing left hip and low back pain for the past 10-12 months.  I had an MRI done and am hoping for some input on what treatment I may be having.  It states I have complete loss of disk space at L5/S1, compression and mass effect on the exiting right L5 nerve root.  I am unable to left my left leg and/or bend at the waist.  Any past experiences out there?

I watched some very helpful videos regarding back surgery on
spine-health.org  You will also find great descriptions of the symptoms
commonly experienced with disk bulges, stenosis, spinal-ishcial pain and etc. on that website..

Also if you experience AS which is Ankylosing Spondylitis there is another website.  This is a lesser known cause of various pain experienced due to
spurs etc on the spine.  Try a search for AS Association. It may be a .org too.

Hope you learn some new helpful ideas and are having a comfortable weekend missj. I believe you can go to my handle on here to leave any questions I might be able to help you with.

I intend to contact a physiatrist in the Clearwater, FL area. I am getting up in years and feel that I would use a pump for pain before accepting back surgery. For those out there interested in the same try this website for more
information,  pumpters.com  On there you will see many folks who express their opinions about back surgery and share ideas to help others having back pain.

My longer post to you failed to be saved.  Just want to encourage you to ask the Experts on here. If you are having any advanced nerve involvement like a change in your bowel or bladder function...like lack of control then your treatment may be urgent. Sounds rather serious that you cannot lift your leg or bend at your waist.

I am having a similar problem with nerve involvlement in my low back too. I have decided to learn as much as possible about the most non-invasive surgeries as well as less drastic treatments.  I am interested in having a physiatris experienced in  designing a treatment plan that will safely
arrange for physical therapy, and chiropractic help as needed. Pain management probably will become a part of the plan.

Feel free to send me a private e-mail as we may be able to help each other.  I am having increased weakness in my legs. Have had back and hip pain for 6 months. My second MRI is to be done this week.
