Whats wrong with my Daddy?

I was hoping someone here could maybe tell me something.  I am 20 and my Daddy is 48.  He is having some serious symptoms and is being tested for different things but I am having a hard time waiting on the test.  Here goes.  He has always been very skinny.  Over the past year his stomach has gotten very large and very hard.  By large I mean it is literally bigger than a 9 month pregnant woman...which wouldnt really be that bad except everywhere else is still tiny.  I know this prob is not neurological related but I figured I would give all the info I could.  He has had trouble swallowing at times for the past few years.  This year things have gotten worse..his hand has at one time literally cramped up into a deformed state and after a while finally relaxed back normal.  He has had lots of restless legs and they always hurt ...he has to massage them when he gets into bed.  Also he cant stand up for long at all...like 15 mins standing max...and that would be a stretch.  He walks with tiny steps and is very stiff.  I am very worried.  I dont know what it could be.  His mothers brother suffered with ALS "Lou Gehrig's disease" and died about 12 years back or more.  He was also military like my father and they have found that most men with ALS were military.  Any advice or info would really be helpfull.  Thank you!

Hi,
these lines in your post/query ---
his stomach has gotten very large and very hard.  By large I mean it is literally bigger than a 9 month pregnant woman.
He has had trouble swallowing at times for the past few years.  This year things have gotten worse

It points towards gastrointestinal pathology - more that of gastric malignancy probably.
Hence an USG abdomen/CT abdomen is advisable.
Further to opine anything would require an detailed clinical examination.
