Can a crying spell be related to myoclonic jerks w/ tonic-clonic?

by artistatheart, Feb 06, 2009 01:27PM
How unlikely is it to have your first tonic-clonic seizure preceded by myoclonic jerks at 30 years old?

It just seems odd to me.  I know I've experienced myoclonic jerks previously; they typically occurred upon waking and lasted for 30-45 min or so after a night of not enough sleep.  So, when they started up one morning last week, I thought nothing of it.  An hour later, I had my first tonic-clonic seizure.

Outside of a febrile seizure as a child and a history of migraines (with visual disturbances), not I nor any of my family members have a history of epilepsy.

My main question is this:  my behavior the day before was odd, in retrospect both to myself and some close to me.  I had an argument with my boss which ended in me crying uncontrollably.  After I eventually calmed down and everything was worked out, I thought I was fine.  I arrived home around 5:30, and the last thing I remember was talking to a friend and my husband giving me a glass of wine.  Between the hours of 5:30 and 9:30, I had 4 glasses of wine, and according to my husband, cried nonstop--even while I ate dinner.  Again, I have no memory of this whatsoever.

The next day is when I awoke with myoclonic jerks feeling fatigued, lightheaded, and disoriented, as well as had some trouble comprehending conversation.

Can all of this be interrelated?  So far, CT scan, EEG, sleep study, and MRI with contrast have all been normal.  I'm at a loss as to what is going on with my own body.

Thanks for you time,

K
