Can anyone please help?

I am writing on behalf of my friends daughter TH, she is 21 and has suffered from hydrocephalus and cerebal paulsy all her life. She has an ajustable shunt fitted and has been to have the shunt checked twice in the last month, however, no action has been taken yet. In the last 2 months or so TH has been experiencing constant headaches (all the time), she has also recently developed short term memory loss, blurred vision, she is finding it harder to speak and her fingers feel different (sensation of touch). The area around the shunt hurts, she feels preasure in her head all the time and she is feeling sick a lot, but when she is sick it is just a little clearish liquid. But, the main thing that worries me is that she lost consciousness twice last week, her neck went back, she went a blueish grey in the face and her eyes rolled back, the carers managed to pull out of it. PLease help.

Since we last spoke TH is to have another CT scan on Thursday morning at the Halmshire Hospital, Sheffield in England. I am in contact with the hospital on a daily basis.Sally Anne is a Neuro Specialist Senior Nurse. Due to TH's increasing and possibly different physical and mental state the Consultant is doing another scan.  Even though her last scan was carried out in February 2009. Many thanks, Helene (TH's mum)

Hi,

It seems very likely that your friend's daughter has developed shunt blockage, probably because of infection. If her current doctor is not responding to her complaints, then it is better for her to go to another doctor, ASAP. All the symptoms that you have stated arise from increased CSF pressure, which in her case is due to shunt blockage.

Do keep me posted

Regards
