Chronic subdural hematoma

Chronic subdural hematoma

My parent was just diagnosed with a chronic subdural hematoma. She actually first went in in July because of headaches but apparently nothing showed up on CT scan. Over the past few weeks the headaches have become unrelenting and severe. She finally went to the ER where they found the hematoma and she was hospitalized for two days while they did a few CTs and tried to find a med which took the edge off the pain. They have stopped her Coumadin and aspirin which she takes for a clotting issue and have decided to take a wait-and-see approach. She does not have an appointment with the neurosurgeon for about 3 weeks.

While it looks like they are taking the usual approach with a person of her age (63) and the size of the cSDH, she becomes extremely ill from the Percocet. So she apparently has to either suffer the excruciating headaches or else feel violently ill from the meds?   She is exhausted from the pain and from the meds nausea. She would be interested in obtaining another opinion, just to see, but the wait to get into someone else is just as long as the wait for the already scheduled appointment.

Is this the typical approach?
