Hi, my Schwannoma is on the left side on the D2-D4 vertebrae, right above aorta.
Docs advise to excise, with the risk of injuring ANS nerves, resulting in split-body syndrome focusing on "red and warm" left hand.
Q is, can the tumor be excised only on its part far from the nerves, so not to injure them? and thus leaving some of the tumor there, but since it grows so slowly, earn symptoms-free years.
A part of the answer might say that the tumor itself can harm those nerves, but still, i'd like to hear that from an expert.
Thanks.
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. Yes, nerve function can be preserved depending on the size, location, proximity to the sympathetic trunks and many other factors. Intracapsular enucleation is a better surgical technique for preserving the nerve function. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!
