Why won't my right hand won't work today?

I have a history of complex migraine, but I'm on zonegran so they are controlled.  I also take the zonegran because of seizures.  I personally think my seizures have something to do with my migraines (migralepsy).  I just started having them at 40 after having steady headaches and migraine symptoms.

Anyways, today it is rainy and typically this weather is bad for my migraines, but I don't have a headache, but I feel a little weird.  What concerns me is my right hand is not wanting to work today and my legs feel like they are going to give out from under me.

I'm wondering if this could be a symptom of complex migraine (complicated migraine)?  Does anyone have experience with this?

He had the lump assessed by his family doctor.  The lump is the size of a marble, maybe a bit larger.  It's hard and he says it does not hurt or hurts a little if I press too hard.

We will have it looked at by a specialist.  At least then, I'll feel better :)

I would have that lump on your husband's leg reassessed.  How big is it?  Did his regular physician assess it or a specialty?

I have never actually read anything about eliminating symptoms and weight loss.  In my opinion, I think the activity and a healthy diet may possibly minimize the symptoms and "flare-ups."  Like you said, it can't hurt to give it a try.  I would definitely try to avoid the surgery if you can.  Some people have the surgery thinking they are going to 100% cured and some end up worse than they were before the surgery and some state some of their symptoms went away and then later came back.  It is definitely nothing to be entered into lightly.

I consulted a NS about a year ago about an abnormal MRI I had, "low lying tonsils."  The NS couldn't give a definite yes or no whether I had Chiari or not.  He did say I have NO overcrowding, No CSF flow problems and 0 tonsil herniation.  Then he went on to say I could have Chiari 0 because of all the symptoms I was having.  Funny thing before I started having all the problems I had just lost about 20-25 pounds and got into great shape.  I was going through alot of stress at the time; moved to France and got married in one year.  The NS was very knowledgeable about Chiari's and didn't treat me like I was a "nutball."

I just live with "whatever" this is and pray to God I wake up one morning and it is gone.  I do continue to stay active and watch my diet closely.  I am surely NOT interested in having anyone going into my skull and manipulating my brain, especially when I and no one else is SURE this is Chiari.

I have done so much research on Chiari and have talked with colleagues about it.

I forgot to ask - I'm not sure how familiar you are with Chiari, but I have been reading that some with chiari have been able to eliminate many symptoms from staying thin.

I used to have a trainer and stay really thin and fit, but when I moved to the UP I began having problems with my health and became less active and began gaining weight and got away from weight training.  Now that my seizures are mostly under control and I'm beginning to feel stronger I feel like I can maybe get back to taking better care of myself, being more active.  I know that with the Chiari, I can't do some of the thing I used to do, but I need to lose about 15-20 pounds.  I'm hoping/praying this will keep me from needing surgery.  My cousin who has Chiari just lost 20 pounds and said most of her symptoms I'm experiencing are gone or minimal.  When I think about it, my Chiari symptoms didn't act up until I began putting this weight on.  Who knows, maybe it has nothing to do with one another, but it's worth a try.  And, I'll get fit again:)

I guess my question is - do you know this to be true about Chiari?  If so, why would weight have anything to do with it?  It make some sense to me, but would like to know facts.

Good Morning,

The weather will be much nicer today, sunny and warmer.  I'm curious about these symptoms and if they will be a problem today.  We will see.  I forgot about the weather and Chiari.  I guess this could be the Chiari acting up.

This may make sense, because the night before I positioned my head strange while watching a movie and when I went to move my head I had this strange feeling in my neck up through my ear and my hearing went in my right ear and then "loud" ringing persisted until I fell asleep.   The numbness in my r-hand may have something to do with this happening since it was the same side of the body.  When I woke up I could hear better, and the ringing was almost gone, but my ears - mostly the right feels muffled.

My husband did get the lump check in his leg.  The doctor said not to worry about it.  Easier said than done.  A friend of mine died shortly after high school after we found a lump on her leg.  She wouldn't get it checked out and when she finally did, the cancer was in her bones.  Maybe I'm letting this scare me.  I hope the doctor is right.  I would feel better getting another opinion.

Thank you for the responses, have a great weekend :)

This could be your Chiari too.  Weather can affect Chiari's.

BTW:  How is your husband?  What did you find out about his problem?  How are you ears?   Just curious.  :))

hi, I suffer from an odd variant migraine that exhibits the symptoms and signs of a cluster headache ( a migraine cluster variant), and sometimes I have weird feelings, heavy legs, or hands that don't seem to work as well as they should. I take Topamax and Gabapenten for seizures as well. as for the migraines, considering that they are vascular and located in the head/brain it is little wonder odd feelings abound in other parts of the body sometimes. I do think there are more complex migraines out there than are diagnosed. It is also probably something that you will have difficulty getting a good diagnoses on unless you know a real good neurologist, but if you are diagnosed you can probably get good treatment.
