Leg weakness and numbness

Hello after a year of unexplained debilitating leg and head weakness and pain, numbness I was referred back to neurology who has run emg testing and mri's etc..with no answers. To my surprise after having gotten a 2nd op from a highly esteemed Neurologist, he told me that he had no answers but wanted to 'think outside the box" and refer me to a neuropsyche test. I was kinda pissed at first because I have battled with Docs thinking it was all in my mind , chronic pain, other issues etc...However, I am so tired of looking for answers that I may just go through with this to see if I learn anything that may help me. Can anyone tell me what a somatization test is for?

Kinda ruffled about this test, but I will try anything to get past this hurdle of leg and head issues.

thanks

Honestly, it's up to you if you agree to testing but  somatization is a nice way of saying "it's all in your head".   I think your so-called "think out of the box" guy was trying to steer you this way without being honest.  I saw an MS specialist and he wrote this on my chart because my test results came back normal.  I wasn't aware of it for a while.  I was furious when I read it.  When he saw me he referred me to a psychologist which of course I refused.  I have no mental health issues whatsoever.  It was very insulting. It's unfortunate but people like us who have these horrible symptoms with normal test results get treated this way all the time.  It's very difficult to find physicians who listen and take you seriously.  You'll probably get the fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue diagnosis eventually if you haven't gotten it already.  I'm sorry about your problems and  I DO NOT think it's in your head.  I think it is very real.  I have lost all faith in out medical system.  I would rather hear "I don't know what is wrong with you" instead of them making it psychological in nature in order to not hurt their ego's.  By the way, lyme disease can cause these symptoms.  Have you been tested?

Hi,
Somatization disorder is a condition characterised by multiple recurrent unexplained somatic symptoms for which patients seek medical attention.
Somatization disorder is an under diagnosed and difficult problem for family physicians. Early diagnosis of somatisers is a very important factor in improving health outcomes.
There are number of test as questionnaire to diagnose this disorder. It is basically a form of hysteria.
Your neuro-psychologist wants to do one of the tests.
It will help in coming close to your diagnosis.
Keep me updated about the results of this test.
Bye.
