Funny feeling in Head

My motheris 96 and haqs been bothered by a "funny feeling in her head" for the last 12 years.  it is getting progressively worse.  She says they are not headaches, or dizzyness, but nonetheless make her feel very uncomfortable - so much so that it is hard for her to do anything.  They are getting worse over time.  At first it occurred only while she was upright, but with time now it is present when she is sitting as well.  They go away when she lays down.

She has had many tests - MRI's, catscans, ears and nodody has yet found any reason for the problem.

I was wondering if this might be somehow related to a spinal fulid irregularity.  I once had a spinal tap and had terrible headaches, for about a week, except when I was lying down.  What I had read about spinal fluid problems seems to indicate the presense of headaches, but not a more nuances problem like her "funny feeling"

Did anyone take orthostatic blood pressures on your mother (lying down, standing up)?  Does she drink plenty of fluids every day?

Hello dear and welcome to the medhelp forum.  Headaches or the funny sensation in head could be primary like migraines, tension and cluster headaches. Your hydration needs to be assessed along with electrolyte levels, or fluctuating hormone levels. The headaches could be secondary to issues in the neck, sinus infection etc. You will need clinical assessment, blood tests including electrolytes and hormone levels. You mentioned about postural variation of headaches. This could be due to spontaneous csf leak occuring without any dural puncture. This has been identified as spontaneous intracranial hypotension. Consult a neurologist for detailed assessment of your mom. Wishing you all the best.

Well, since the one nurse clinician was a witness to it, it would be worth investing in a blood pressure home monitor (Omron is highly rated by Consumer Reports) from a store and trying it at home.  Are they testing her electrolytes to make sure all are in normal range?  How many glasses of liquid is she drinking each day?

We have had mixed results.  One nurse clinician seemed to identify a drop in blood pressure when standing, but it was not reporduced later.
