Have had the hic-ups for 5 months

I had surgery for an acoustic neuroma 5 months ago. The nerve to my left ear was cut so I have a balance problem which is slowly improving but my head still feels "heavy"  Any ideas how long this will last?  Also I  hic-up at least 10 times a day.  Just one big one at a time.  Even during the night will get woken by one.  Is this the result of the op? It started while I was in the hospital.

Many thanks

Hiccups, just seen untold stories of the ER, yes I realize your comment was over a year ago, but I didnt come to this forum looking to write, I just came to this forum looking for all the things that people do for hiccups and I still havent found anywhere where it says, what this doctor did to actually get rid of the hiccups. They already, tried having her put sugar on her tongue, drinking water upside down, injecting her with a drug that made her go to sleep for an hour.
The only thing that worked was when the doctor pressed on her forehead right above her eyebrows with his first 2 fingers and used both hands at the same time.
This worked and she went home.

I am not a doctor, only a nursing student with a curiosity for the strange and unexplained.  I was interested in your post because I am a medical documentary junky, and I have seen several shows on TV with patients coming into the emergency room with chronic hiccups that are effective their quality of life.  I am surprised at how little the doctors do for this problem.  They always say that they are harmless and that they really don't think the hiccups are happening for any reason.  I tend to think that our bodies don't do anything "just because".  I think the hiccups are your body's way of trying to tell you something (serious or not).  I am trying to remember this particular episode of "Untold Stories of the ER" in which a lady came in with chronic hiccups.  The doctor tried a number of remedies including an injection of a certain drug.  After countless hours and attempts he finally came up with a solution.  I just cannot remember what it was.  I DVR those episodes frequently, so I will try to find it and get back to you with the information.

I posted awhile ago about my problem with hiccups too.  Daily.  But I also stated that I had a way of getting rid of them so they don't bother me.  Its worth a shot if you want to try it.  Take a regular glass of water and cover the top with a paper towel and drink the water through a paper towel.  Works for me 100% of the time.  Let me know if it works for you.
