Prednisone prior to MRI question

Hello,

I had a MRI of the brain and MRI of my neck today with contrast and I was premedicated with PRednisone 40mg po q 8rs x24 hrs with Zantac 150mg po q 8hrs x24 hrs and Benadryl 50mg with the last dose today.  My neck is feeling increasingly better today after being on all that PRednisone. My question to you is since Prednisone helps decrease inflammation do you think it is possible that it could be some type of infection or what else could this burning pain I have been having in my neck for the last 3 months be? Caliber 2005, you told me to keep you updated on my results but I wont have those until I see my neurologist again.. THe pain I had in my neck was on the posterior right side that migrated up to the posterior right skull and by my right ear.. I am just praying I dont have an infection. Could you help me with any good information or advice? Thank you so much.

Hi,

THank you so much for everything. I have no problems with MRI's. They dont scare me one bit. The only thing is waiting for the results. This was my 6th MRI since late JUly.. I have had 3 cervical MRI's so far, thoracic and lumbar MRI and now a brain MRI.  My only question is they did an MRI in October of the cervical region with contrast and it was negative for infection.. Are there sometimes false negatives?  The MRI's I had today were a little more different today.. They focused on the soft tissues of the neck and had all kinds of weight on it.. Now I was on methylprednisone dose pack prior to surgery and after surgery and didnt seem to help as much and they didnt at the time think there was any inflammatory process going on and said I dont have an infection.. I willl let you know of my results when I get them. I dont see my neuroligist until Jan 10 but I might make an appt sooner..Happy Holidays to you too and your family..God Bless you

Hi,
How was the whole procedure? Was it scary at all? When the results been given to you?
Prednisone is a steroid and it has got anti-inflammatory action too.
If you are relieved of your symptoms, it suggests that some inflammatory pathology is in place around cervical region.
Inflammatory pathology can be due to infection, tumor, nerve impingement or any trauma in that area.
It is difficult to say for which it has helped you.
We need to wait for report to comment up on the likelihood of cause.
Alternatively, I think you can be started on Prednisone low dose therapy.
You should discuss with your neuro-physician regarding this.
Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Bye.
