Hyperosmia treatment?

My teenager has been experiencing a heightened sense of smell for several months now.  It is having a very negative effect on their quality of life as they can't eat many foods he used to, can't be in the same room as a smoker because the residual odor on their clothing, etc.  They also suffers from post-concussive syndrome include severe sleep disruption, and this symptom seems to have started around the time of the concussion.

My question is – Are there any treatments for Hyperosmia?

It is rough. Avoidance of irritants is important  Especially bedroom. Get good Austin air type filters.  . Keep room unscented, Eat cleanly too...no convenience foods. Real fresh or frozen vegetable, fruit, clean fish, lean meat organic if possible.  Quinea, buckwheat, amaranth, and rice porridges.  Avoid dairy and wheat.

I believe your son has a neurological problem brought on by the concusions.  Nothing really helps but time, deep breathing, snd prayer. No caffeine, go off sleep meds, snd take valerian instead.  .

Hello.

In head injury or concussion, there are chances that the cerebral hemispheres are injured. The temporal lobe in particular is responsible for such sensations of excessive sensitivity to smell. There are certain new smells as well.

Was there any MRI of the brain done recently to rule out any structural damage to the brain?

John's concussion occured over a year ago.  Is it too late for treatment?   What are the treatment options?

He has also been on quite a few medications to deal with this sleep problems.  Could any medications that are either used to help with sleep or used to promote day time wakefulness cause hperosmia?

Hello.

Hyperosmia following a concussion needs to be treated as soon as possible. There are many causes. Can you identify any particular cause apart from the concussion?

This topic has not been researched extensively. There is a dearth of evidence that shows how and why concussion can produce hyperosmia.

How is his/her sleep now? Have you got any diagnosis for them?
