Is cerebellar atrophy hereditary?

Hello,

I have a parent who suffered from cerebellar atrophy at an elderly age, and would like to know if it is genetic. Will my children or I be at risk of having cerebellar atrophy as well?

I too had a parent, my mother, die of Cerebellum Atrophy.  I have been unable to find a definitive cause, although vitamin B12 deficiency is often mentioned.  I would also like to know if it is known whether or not it is hereditary.
