Time will tell. Keep in mind that although a stroke patient may not be able to respond properly they can usually understand everything spoken in the room. Explain every day if there are new developments and hold the person's wrist or shoulder. Music helps, but most hospitrals or rehab facilities only have televisions now.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Dad has lived normal until now. I appreciate your quick response. Dad is ten days in stroke recovery. Stroke occurred oct 17 2013
Yes. Don't give up. I started rehab on a 99 year old stroke patient who was immobilized, incontinent and partially paralyzed. The doctors had given up on her and expected her to die within five days. I began extensive rehab (I called it the optimal experience day), fired her doctors, four nurses and a total of 37 aides. At age 102 I had her walking and talking. No longer incontinent. She told me "I was never happier in my life". She is now almost 110 years old.
