I have never smoked, had high blood pressure or diabetes. My cholesterol is fine. All the usual reasons for microangiopathic gliosis I do not have yet that was the diagnosis of my MRI. Any other reasons I might have this and do I need to worry about continued deterioration of my cognitive or physical abilities? I take care of my husband who has alzheimer's disease. I have to know I will be able to continue to care for him. I am 57 years old and aside from clinical depression and gerd I am pretty healthy.
I have never smoked, drank, had high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I do not fit the profile. This is very puzzling. I fell about 14 years ago and struck the back of my head very hard on concrete. Could this have cause my problem? Do you have any other suggestions for a cause and should I be concerned?
Hi,
Microangiopathic gliosis indicates disease of the very small blood vessels in the brain which results in loss of function of brain cells known as gliosis. Diseases like diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and smoking can cause the walls of the blood vessels to thicken resulting in loss of proteins and subsequent damage of the brain cells.
These changes in the brain are not uncommon and can be seen in anyone with longstanding of history of conditions mentioned above. It is therefore important to keep blood sugar, cholesterol, BP under control.
Hope this answers your question.
