Lipoma near mid-spine developed during pregnancy

I noticed this lump on my back right along the spine during my pregnancy in 2007. Then it kind of seemed to disappear (or maybe I didn't notice). But this week it seems to have reappeared right in the same spot. I know it is probably lipoma (my husband has quite a few on his arms/body). But the location near the spine concerns me. I am a 32 year old who does not have any other lipomas. Did pregnancy bring this on? Should I see a general surgeon or a neurosurgeon? Please advice.

Thanks.

Hi,
One common cause of lipomas is genetic. A patient may have several close relatives with histories of fatty tumors. Also, minor injuries may cause lipomas to develop, so it is important to monitor your body when you experience an injury. Some studies have attempted to determine whether excess weight is a cause of lipomas. Pregnancy as such doesn’t cause Lipomas but the weight gain could be responsible for the formation of the Lipoma . If the lipoma is on the spine , you must see a neurosurgeon or a spine surgeon . Hope this helps you . Take care and  regards !

Hello. I just wanted to make a comment. I have many lipomas all over my body. The most obvious one is on top of my head. Of course, no one knows its there but me. I was told after an x-ray of my back that I have evidence of a lipoma along my spine or shoulder bones. I notice that it seems to swell and become somewhat painful if I use that area of my body when I exercise or work. It seems to also get in my way somewhat when I sleep on my back. The lipomas do not seem to pose a greater problem except for the things I have mentioned.
