Loss of all muscle ability

I know the problem is Neurological. I have a very good friend that started feeling very tired, from here he went to not having the strength to get himself out of a chair. This probably went on for several months and the symptoms continued to get worse. He finally end up in a hospital in Gaithersburg MD (Shady Grove Hospital). At first they thought he had Guillain Barre Syndrome and that was a misdiagnoses. After about a month in Shady Grove the symptoms have gotten worse, all ability to use any muscles are completely gone. He was transferred to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and has now been in the hospital for about 14 months. He has absolutely no ability to use any of his muscle functions. He has a breathing tube and a tube for feeding. As far as his brain, he is completely functionally.
Can anyone help restore this man to who is once was. He has gotten pneumonia several times. As of today 7-11-09 he is still in the hospital with no improvement, we need help
