MS symptoms? Normal MRI.

Over the last 3 1/2 months I have experienced lightheaded spells, neck and back pain, muscle weakness, random tingling usually in fingers and feet but have gone down the spine and head, difficulty swallowing occasionally, and the worst of all full body spasm episodes that range from 30 mins-4 hours and during that time I become paralyzed, spacey and delayed in speech.  These episodes begin with lightheaded sensation then a tightening in my thighs, that progresses to my muscles contracting and spasm uncontrollably.  I can not move my legs weather it be straighten them or bend them or even stand! Lately it goes through my back also and sometimes it effects my arms and hands.  The right side seems worse then the right.  I can talk, see, move my head, laugh, cry but from the neck down am stuck in place! My heart isn't racing and I'm calm.  I have seen my General Dr., a neurologist, rheumatologist, visited the ER a few times and even been hospitalized over night for observation.  Have had bloodwork, MRI, X-ray, EKG, Heart monitoring, Barrium Swallow test, given muscle relaxant, take Motrin, and even given xanax, etc.  I was left with being told to seek a psycological evaluation but I feel deep in my heart that this is not the route I need to take!  Nothing has come of these things.  I have a normal MRI and X-ray other then a straightened cervical spine that they suspect is from muscle spasm.  Been in PT for a month and showed signs of improvement then went down hill again. Seeing another Neurologist next week but not sure what else to do!  It's a constant rollercoaster and I can't live my life this way! I've given up my sport and I'm a mother of 2.  Any suggestions?! Now what?!

Have you had a lumbar puncture to help R/O MS?  You can also check the McDonald criteria for MS.

Perhaps it is your neck, especially because PT helped.  Hope you get answers.

Yes I did.  MRI of brain and of neck in April.  I'm hoping somebody will take a second look at the MRI and X-ray just to be sure.  We'll see.  I have noticed some relief with gentle traction.  The PT have done some on me as well as my brother who is in AT.  It helps the pressure but uncertain about the spasms.  My PT has stopped as of today until something is figured out.  They suspect the neuro will do further testing with the nerves and the spine.  Guess we'll find out!

Sometimes the straightening of the cervical lordosis can be positional...bcuz u r lying down......sometimes it is from the tightened muscles surrounding the neck that have pulled it out  of it's proper placement.

There are other reasons and conditions as well......did u have a brain MRI also?

Not that I know of!  The only answer I have (and the radiologist didn't even tell me, I saw it on the report) is a straightened cervical spine. The Rheumatologist thought maybe these symptoms  are related to the spine but things have changed since then.

Welcome to the club! I can't believe how many people I see posting MS symptoms  with clean MRI's. At some point I think the DR. would take a look  that there something out there that they are not catching. I have had MS symptoms for 6 years. three MRI's and three neurologist . Not One Dr has helped me, or has been interested in anything as soon as the MRI's come back clean. My only suggestion is check to see if you have lyme disease.
