Medication Menstruation & Menopause

by manicmobi, Sep 23, 2009 09:03AM
I have been attempting to unearth the chemical reaction in the brain whilst concomitantly menstruating or going through the menopause at the same time as taking Stimulant medications and SSRI’s, it appears this is an area that has not been broached albeit thousands of patients are being effected.

SSRI’s (antidepressants) Prozac, Effexor, Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, prescriptions have increased dramatically over the last decade as has the revenue of drug companies; Prozac alone netted over 180 billion dollars last year in profit.

Considering Stimulants and hormones both affect how the brain controls impulses and regulate behaviour, how does the brain deal with this.

During menstruation I have found the underlying co-morbidities of my adhd become accelerated.
Some studies have shown that co morbidities especially anxiety disorders may affect the response to stimulant medication.

I would apreciate and feedback
