My right leg keeps going numb, what could be causing this?

Over the past month my right leg, above my knee has been going numb. Occasionally i get the sensation that icy hot is on that area too, and i have no idea what may be causing the sensation or numbness. By numb, i mean that when i touch it i cant feel myself touching it and sometimes it burns from the inside. I feel like it may have something to do with the muscle inside my leg but im not too sure. I hate going to the emergency room, especially since i dont know if it is serious or not.
