A myelogram is done by injecting a dye in the spinal canal. Usually LP is done to inject the dye after numbing the skin. You will lie on an Xray table. After the area is numb, thin needles will be put into the spinal canal and Xray pictures will be taken. Your position will be adjusted in such a way that the dye reaches the required part of the spinal canal. Your pulse, respiration and blood pressure will be monitored. The procedure takes anywhere between 30 min to one hour. If the CT scan is also being done it may take a little longer. You may need to lie in a bed with your head elevated for atleast 8 hrs after the procedure.Hope this answers your question!
