I get blurred vision prior to getting a migraine.

Blurred vision can be caused by several things....... if its associated with pain, you really ought to see an eye doctor to have it evaluated.

You need to see a doctor.  It could be something like a migraine but it could also be a tumor.  My mother had double-vision and headaches prior to being diagnosed with non-small cell brain cancer.  It's TREATABLE, but you HAVE to get in to see a doctor as soon as humanly possible.

I think possibly I may have gone to the ER at the time of the above symptoms if I hadn't had this evaluated already.

What you describe can be seen in migraine with visual prodrome.  The typical visual disturbances are jagged or bright lines within the vision and that symptom is rarely seen in any other condition.  Less commonly experienced are dark areas in the vision, dimmed vision or very blurred vision -but these kinds of visual disturbances can also be symptoms of other kinds of medical problems.  You should see an ophthalmologist (not an optometrist) who will do testing to rule out any other problem and can prescribe medication for when it hits.  Sometimes if medication is taken at the onset of visual disturbance, the severity of headache can be lessened or aborted entirely.
