Can a regular doctor tell if you have retinal detachment?

Or should you just go straight to an othamologist?

Hi.

A retinal detachment cannot be ruled out yet in your case. Do you suffer from diabetes? Diabetic retinopathy can also your symptoms.

It appears that you really need to consult an ophthalmologist as your primary symptom is eye-related.

Good luck.

um i havent lost any vision, but i do have floaters, which i know can be normal but also tons of small ones like bubbles that are only noticable when i look at the sky. Sometimes color in the corner of my eye and say when im looking at the computer or tv and then i look at the wall i can see dark shadows likek rectangles shapes that get darker when i continue to look at that one spot. Also when i close my eyes there is like a ton of small dots in my vision. also when my heart beats something in front of my eyes moves like fluid or something moves to my heartbeat, any ideas?

Hi.

What are your symptoms? Do you experience eye floaters, light flashes, watery vision, a feeling of a curtain blocking your vision, or a sudden dramatic decrease of vision.

These symptoms are, indeed suggestive of retinal detachment and you should consult an ophthalmologist immediately.

Hope this helps.

Hi.

While a general practitioner would also be able to recognize and determine that someone has a retinal detachment, if you have a strong suspicion that RD is indeed present, especially if you have researched on the condition, it would be advisable to consult an ophthalmologist to check your symptoms as well as rule out any other ocular disorder.

Hope this helps.
