Petechiae on baby's bottom

My daughter (11 mos) has had petechia on her bottom since she was born. It's no where else on her body and seems to get worse after having a bowel movement or sitting in her car seat for a period of time. Her pediatrician did blood work to rule out leukemia and that came back negative. At her 12 mo. checkup they will do a blood test to check for Von Willebrands. I have not heard of this being a symptom of VW and am wondering of it could be something else. Also, if it matters, we switched to cloth diapers when she was 4 months, but it hasn't made much of a difference. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm a doctor that hangs out here on the neurology forum, but coiincidentally I have Von Willebrands Disease, type I.  Petechia are not the commonest manifestation of Von Willebrands, but they can be seen.  Petechiae are typical of platelet dysfunction and certainly are described in VWD.  It is not unusual to see them in infants in dependent areas which have mild sheering trauma.  (eg. bottoms)

I think it is absolutely appropriate to do the work up as planned.  Quix
