I also had shingles.  I had to take Lyrica 50 mg twice a day for 2 months. It did help with the pain. It has been a year since my outbreak and I still get twinges of pain at the rash site if I get stressed at work.

Hi:

I have had shingles since august 2006.  it has developed into postherpetic neuralgia.  i have been on Lyrica and use pain patches (Lidocaine) since that time.  nothing really seems to help.  some people have very mild side effects from the shingles and others, like me, have had additional problems.  tell your sister to be more insistent/persistent with her dr. in regard to her treatment for both her bp plus shingle issue.  hope this helps.

I would ask the doc for morphine patches--that will be very effective in the pain management process.

Also try a TENS unit for pain.

Please just look up this condition and see all the treatments that are available.

I had shingles when I was 10...very painful.  I still have some scarring from the blisters.  I would have her go back to the doctors.

If I were in this situation, I would definately call the doctor in regards to the BP readings. High readings can be a sign of pain. I've had shingles and took care of my father in law who still has his shingles. They ARE very painful. They can attack the nerves, as they did with my father in law, and I know from his experience that there is pain medication available for these symptoms. This is my two cents. Call the doctor is my vote.
