Month-long headache...please help a desperate man!

For the past month, I have been experiencing something I can only describe as terrifying.

I have been getting extreme headaches. It is on the top left side of my head. It starts off suddenly. Just a sharp stabbing pain. They are like icepick headaches, but they stick around as a dull ache after occurring. It has occassionally shown up in my sleep as well.  My head also has gone numb, or fallen asleep when I'M asleep.

This is also accompanied by what I describe as a burning cold sensation in that spot. And I do occasionally get a tingling sensation on the RIGHT side of my head. And when this happens, my face becomes hot and flushed. I rarely become dizzy....but it does happen.

It's not all the time, but it is happening daily usually later in the evening. And again it is all on the top left side of my head, going into the back side.  And I can also press actually ON my skull where the pain is, and it actually hurts on my skull as well, but it feels like it goes deeper into my brain.

I'm starting to become very concerned, as aspirin pills are rarely helping.

Please help me here.

Hi Rick,

Does it hurt at all when you turn your head?  For instance, if you look to the right, does the pressure and pain increase?

Hi
I would advise that you consult your doctor since your headache is unusual, recurring and has lasted for a month. Since there is associated sensitivity to cold, it may also be due to multiple sclerosis.
Generally, many patients with multiple sclerosis present with headaches which can resemble migraine, cluster or tension headaches. Cluster headaches being suddenly, as a severe burning or stinging sensation on one side of the nose or deep in one eye. They tend to recur at the same time every day, each episode lasting from few minutes to 2-3 hours, resolving completely till the next headache sets in.
You should get yourself examined by the doctor to rule out possibility of MS and appropriate treatment.
Take care
