Should I have another nerve block?

Should I have another nerve block?

I am a 45 year old white female and I have had two neck surgeries within the past 3 years. I have a plate in my neck from C5 to C7. I stay in pain most of the time. I have recent had a nerve block in my neck from C2 to C7 where the nerves were burnt. This was done 5 weeks ago and I still am having pain on the right side of my neck where this was done. I am suppose to have the same blocks on the left side of my neck in 2 weeks but I am really thinking about not having this because of the pain I am in. The doctor said one person out of a hundred has a reaction like I have to this block. The way he explained it to me was my nerves were angry and they were trying to find their ends that were burnt. He put me on Lyrica and a steroid to help. I have been feeling light headed and feeling not myself since I had all this done. Should I be worried? Should I have the left side done or not. The pain gets so bad I can not stand myself at times. I am on lortab10s for the pain and have been for over 2 years now and they really don't help like they did for the pain. What can I do about this and get pain relief. Sick of hurting.

Hi there. I understand your predicament well. Were you given epidural steroids and local anesthetics for the pain? Were the nerve burnt intentionally or as a reaction to the shot? If yes, I think you need to hold on with the injection and seek a second opinion from a different pain physician if possible. Continue taking NSIADs and opioids on prescription for the intractable pain apart from lyrica and lortab that you are receiving. A repeat MRI neck would show the condition of soft tissues and other discs involved. Hope you get better soon.
