Stroke

I am a 43 yo white female with sle and chronic pain.Based on a 2001 mri I was told that I had a stroke when my mother was about 3 months pregnant with me. I was born with congenital nystagmys and astigmatism. I just completed an eeg with abnormal results. The report states that " This EEG recorded during wakefulness and drowsiness is abnormal due to the presence of several clear-cut sharp wave discharges emanationg from the left mid to anterior temporal head region. There was no asymmetry. She sharp wave discharges seen are potentially epileptogenic in nature. Clinical correlation is suggested."
The Dr. said I have ADD and has prescribed adderall 10 mg twice daily. I just stated taking it today 11-29-07. I am to go back in 2 weeks. What does all this mean? The Dr. did not explain any further.

Hi.

Was there any symptom you experienced which led to an EEG being performed? Any previous seizures?

Your EEG is only suggestive of  the possibility of seizures in the future and should be correlated with your present clinical findings before any proper interpretation is made.

Amphetamine-dextroamphetamine (Adderall) is a central nervous system stimulant which affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control and is commonly used to treat attention deficit disorder and narcolepsy.

You should go ahead with the consult with your neurologist to continually monitor your symptoms.

Good luck.
