Sudden Weakness in arms

In the last few months I have been getting a sudden weakness in both arms.  It comes on suddenly and lasts a maximum of 5 minutes.  When it happens I cannot lift anything.  I feel so weak that I have to sit or lie down until it passes.  This week it hit me twice.  Before these 2 incidents, the last time this happened was a month ago and before that was probably another month (2 times in a week).  The sensation is from the shoulders down to my hands.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Amazing! Everyone with the same symptoms and no diagnosis. Have had the attack recently for the second time. I just started to take NSAID rarely when needed. Years back Celebrex another NSAID put me in the hospital from a GI bleed so I only take it when I really am desperate. Was A-FIB last year and was cardioverted. Have sleep apnyea and use a CPAP. This is a whole different and new sensation with the heavy arms and tight aura feeling around the shoulders and neck that I have never had before.

You know I have had an attack.  I am a marathon runner, 62 and in great health.  The descriptions listed here for this episode is a perfect match for what I experienced this past Thursday.  A warmth oozing through my arms, a feeling of weakness through my whole body.  A twitching in my upper arms matching my pulse.  2 of them within 15 minutes, lasting about 5 minutes a piece.  My heart rate was 90 or so ( normally 60 ).  I think I know what it was………..A PANIC ATTACK…… way too much stress that day.  Take some time to exercise any way you can.  It will help tremendously………………Stephen

Yes I have had tyroid checked and the dr. says all is good.  I get blood work done every three months or so and everything seems fine.  But I still get those episodes with weak arms.  Only lasts a few minutes and it does bother me not to know why.

hi, my husband has sleep apnea with early onset parkinson's and narcolepsy with cataplexy....crazy episodes of extreme fatigue and weakness, his knees gave out and he fell to the ground three times. he sleeps for a few hours and wakes up fine????? he has myoclonus, eyelids can barely open, slurred speech, looks like a stroke or seizure but fully recovers after sleep...... you might need a sleep study. he's on concerta, stimulant which is helping. we had no idea he wasn't getting any quality sleep.

Well, I had hoped to get a cut and dried answer like the rest of you! Just experienced for the first time tonight what I am reading about on this board. Unlike some of you, I DO have various health issues. Am being treated by a neuro and an oncology doc, but never have felt anything like this. I should mention I am receiving Botox in my neck for cervical dystonia as well as being treated with Neurontin for Neuropathy of the feet. This happened very suddenly while I was making supper. The "Aura" accompanied by my upper arms feeling "squeezed" while a heat like sensation traveled across my shoulder blades. I have had some odd things with the nerve issues, but this....well, it was unnerving...
