Thank you for your response. My daughter had been hospitalized this past weekend and a different neurologist will be taking over her care. I am glad because he seems much more knowledgeable about the treatment she needs. He also decreased her dosage of diamox to 2000 mg per day. She was also sent home on zanaflex, neurontin & phenergan to help with her pain. Previously they did not give this poor girl anything for pain and when I would call in about her increasing headaches & vomiting, they would just increase her diamox.
But I think with this new Dr. she will be treated more appropriately. This week is the first time in months that I have seen life back in her eyes!
Thanks again!
All of the information I have come across says this:
Adult Dose 500-4000 mg/d PO bid/tid
Pediatric Dose 25-100 mg/kg/d PO; not to exceed 2 g/d
Hope this helps. Hard to believe that your daughter's doctor was so unconcerned about how much she is prescribing her. Children are not just little adults, their body chemistry is different, and therefor, medication administration must be different. Plus, prescribing too much medication can have serious effects on your liver and kidneys.
