Troubled

Reading in a few groups of people saying they are diagnosed with dementia, May I ask please how can someone know they have dementia . It seems contradictory to the term. My psychologist friend told me once that people dont know , the people around them notice..
I am sooo scared . Both my grandmothers had some sort of decline after age 75. My paternal grandmother whose name I also share lol said  some weird stuff like seeing or feeding people living under the bed and had strokes..she was mean, violent even nearing the end years. She would bang the walls at night terrible. She died at 86 ..my maternal grandmother died at 93 she sometimes wouldn't remember us and had a few episodes banging at the neighbours doors etcc but she was also very elderly..both my parents are 73 , my dad has diabetes - and both him and I have Hashimoto and migraines for many years..My mri showed multiple white matter foci not in basal ganglia and mostly subcortical. I am 47 fem and have 3 children who still need me , especially my middle son who has also issues. I am scared..I have seen 6 neurologists asked point blank if this is dementia and they said no reluctantly of course! From my research my mri is fazekas scale one (few months ago)
