Hi,
I am no longer taking the prednisone; however I did take the entire prescription. I have an appointment scheduled with a rheumatologist the first week of December. I have had blood work done which came back normal. I am hoping I will find out more at my upcoming appointment. Thanks.
Corticosteroid-induced myopathy (steroid myopathy) is a non-necrotic myopathy which leads to weakness in the proximal muscles, but without muscle pain. Chronic usage of prednisone at >10 mg per day may predispose patients to this condition. This condition is reversible when the dose of the drug is reduced or is discontinued. The symptoms may take weeks or months to resolve.
Have you had a dose reduction or discontinuation of prednisone? If not, you should consult your physician regarding this. You could also proceed to see a rheumatologist to have your other symptoms properly assessed.
Thank you for responding. I will take your advice in consideration.
Hi,
Do an EMG and consult an Orthopaedician,he will help you get over your problems.
Do blood work.Check for thyroid related problems, generalized myalgia is a thyroid related symptom.
A MRI can help is further diagnosis.
For the time being take low protein diet, and keep off smoking if you are a smoker.it would improve your condition.
Goodluck.
