Unknown Pain Symptoms

I have been having muscle and joint aches all over, aches in my fingertips and tips of toes, pain running down the back of right leg, muscle twitches, pain in shoulder socket.  This has been going on everyday for about 3 months.  I went to the doctor and they told me I had sciatic for the back and leg problem.  I was prescribed 40 mg of Prednisone (21 pills).  Before I began taking the Prednisone I was not expereincing the muscle and joint aches.  It was prescribed for the fingertips, tips of toes and the back pain running down the right leg.  The other symptoms started after taking the medication.  I also expereince a light headed or foggy headed feeling sometimes.  The doctor told me I had Steriod Myopathy and that was why I was having the other symptoms.  I asked if it would go away and the doctor said yes but it still has not gone away.  I would like to know what the symptoms are of Steriod Myopathy because I have been getting vague information from other websites.  I would really like to know what is going on with me and plan to see a Rheumatologist.  I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or anything similar.

Hi,

I am no longer taking the prednisone; however I did take the entire prescription.  I have an appointment scheduled with a rheumatologist the first week of December.  I have had blood work done which came back normal.  I am hoping I will find out more at my upcoming appointment.  Thanks.

Corticosteroid-induced myopathy (steroid myopathy) is a non-necrotic myopathy which leads to weakness in the proximal muscles, but without muscle pain. Chronic usage of prednisone at >10 mg per day may predispose patients to this condition. This condition is reversible when the dose of the drug is reduced or is discontinued. The symptoms may take weeks or months to resolve.

Have you had a dose reduction or discontinuation of prednisone? If not, you should consult your physician regarding this. You could also proceed to see a rheumatologist to have your other symptoms properly assessed.
