Killing nerves for back pain?

What are the possible side effects if a patient has chronic back pain and has been recommended to have the nerves killed in the back?

I have been in pain with my back for a long time . Over the years it`s getting worse . Now it`s going down leg and feet . Someone mentioned something about having nerves killed and it would help . It`s this true and what are side effects ? I am so misserable I can`t stand myself . Please let me know about this proceedure. Thanks

I think the biggest side effect is the loss of sensation in the area around where the nerves are.  If you're suffering from severe pain, this may be worth it to reduce your pain.
