Muscle twitches

I have been experiencing muscle twitching off an on for some time now, right now they occur about every 10 seconds or so in both legs.  They are not associated with exercise.  I also had a bout with strangely slurred speech about 3 weeks ago that went on for about 2 weeks.  It really suprised me because all of a sudden I just couldn't get the words out.  I also noticed about this time that I was markedly weaker than before.  I deploy with the military, though I am not in the military and am accustomed to moving around heavy equipment.  Lately I find it much harder to do and I notice  my muscles seem to have shrunken in size.   Puzzled

Hi,
How are you feeling now?
Is the twitching still there?
Your symptoms could be suggesting a benign fasciculation syndrome (BFS) which is a diagnosis of exclusion and it is recognized by twitching of various voluntary muscles in the body. The twitching is most common in the eyelids, arms, legs, and feet.
In addition to twitching, patients with BFS often experience pain, paraesthesia, generalized fatigue, exercise intolerance and/or muscle cramping.
Another common feature is an increase in the patient's level of anxiety, especially health-related anxiety.
Other likely causes are motor neuron diseases such as ALS, MS etc must be eliminated before BFS can be assumed.
An important diagnostic tool here is the electromyography (EMG). If EMG is reported normal, than a diagnosis of BFS can be made.
MS has definitive criteria to diagnose, is satisfied then a definitive diagnosis is made.
MRI is diagnostic tool for MS.
Have you got any endocrine problem?
Did you meet neurologist? If not I think you should consult a neurologist at earliest and decide regarding further course of action.
Hope this helps you.
Bye.

Hi,
You could be suffering from benign fasciculation syndrome which is characterised by twitching of various voluntary muscles of the body esp. eyelids, arms, legs and feet.It can even invovlve the tongue which could have caused slurred speech. It can be caused by overexertion, spinal injury or muscular dystrophy.I suggest you to consult a neurologist and undergo EMG examination.Good luck!

hello,
I have muscle twitches in my legs, do you have pain in the back or legs, i see you said your muscles are weaker and you lift heavy things, i've found out that alot of problems with legs have been back related, not sure about the speech thing. Have you had MRI's done or any testing for RLS?
