SLE refers to systemic lupus erythamatoses (sp). People can even have a negative ANA and still have it. Other tests need to be performed which is why it's good you are going to a rheumatologist. Sometimes this autoimmune disease can smolder for years. My mother was diagnosed with it at age 66 and is now almost 86. There are medications to treat it. Good luck.
You know the feeling that you get when you break a blood vessel in your hand or etc.? Well I've been feeling like when I go to carry something or over all my "veins" are more sensitive and if I don't be careful I will break a blood vessel. I feel this mainly in my hands and feet. I am scheduled to see a Rhumatologist ext week next week due to a high ANA reading. Was just curious if there is a term for what I'm experiencing.
Thank you for the response. I have an appointment with a Rhumatologist next month. I'm just concerned because I'm quitting my job and need to get on other health insurance. Not to mention I have a 18 month old and 4 year old and I really hope and pray nothing serious pops up. I don't want to make my family broke nor not be able to tend to my children.
Hi,
A positive ANA test result may suggest an autoimmune disease, but further testing is always required to make a final diagnosis. ANA test results can be positive in people without any known autoimmune disease. This is not common but the frequency of a false positive ANA result increases as people get older. ANA may become positive before signs and symptoms of an autoimmune disease develop, so it may take time to diagnose the condition of a positive ANA in a person who does not have symptoms. Most positive ANA results are not significant, but patients should also still be vigilant for development of signs and symptoms that might suggest an autoimmune disease.
The most common autoimmune disease is SLE characterized by arthritis, rash, and thrombocytopenia. Please consult a rheumatologist for specific tests to confirm the diagnosis. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
