What's the matter with me?

So, here I am in college, and I have no attention span, whatsoever. I used to really be into school and so motivated. I remember middle school when I would get a school project and be excited to work on it and get it done. Now, everything seems to get finished (as well as started) the night before it's due because I get so distracted and find anything to do other than work. This isn't just confined to academia, per se, I don't really read much anymore, I love to write, but I don't, I have gained a lot of weight . . . et cetera. I just can't ever stay focused on anything. It's like I can't think about anything, when I try to work, or even read sometimes, it's as if I am in some sort of haze or fog. I'm doing good to check my email, livejournal, and facebook every couple of days. I really just prefer to sleep. What is wrong with me? ADD? ADHD? Depression? Lack of motivation? I am really stressed about this. Thanks for your time! :-)

hiya, i have the exact same problems, my doctor says it may be due to my anxiety or down to a hormonal issue. I've had alot of tests on my hormones and thyroid and nothings come back on those, so they're putting me into therapy for anxiety and depression (which i know i have), to see if that'll help, as it may be a subconscious fear of failure or something along those lines that wrecks my concentration! Is there a possibilty you could have anxiety or depression? Its not a bad thing to have, lots of people do have it and may not realise, and it may be whats affecting you. I would look into the hormonal levels and thyroid first though, your doctors can look into this for you easily :)
It could be adhd or even mild dyslexia, this is also found quite easily through a psychological evaluation for adhd or add, and dyslexia can be found through quite a simple test that your college may be able to sort out for you :)

Hi, all of your symptoms point to a possible hormonal problem rather than ADHD. The lack of concentration, lack of focus, loss of interest/inability to do the things you used to love, Weight gain, even possible depression. Those are classic symptoms of a Thyroid problem or a Hormonal imbalance. If so, your symtoms are not going to get better on their own and they will probably get worse. You should see your doctor who can run a simple blood test to check those things for you.Hope you feel better and Keep me posted.

Dear She Said,
Well, my tip is not neurological, but your story sure rang a bell with me.  When people go away to college, sometimes their typical home routines change.  One of them is eating breakfast.  If you have been skipping eggs in the morning, or not getting enough protein with your meals, you are going to get lethargic.  PLUS, whenever you eat carbs with protein, and add physical activity to it, like riding a bike between classes, you get a long metabolic BURN going, will give you boundless energy, the pounds will drop off, and your grades will improve.
