Nerve Healing, Please Help

Hey. I used to be a competitive bodybuilder and martial artist. I got a shoulder dislocation in April 23, 2006, that left me with axillery nerve damage. The nerve damage caused subsequent deltoid atrophy that has destroyed much of my body and dreams.

I went through 15 doctors already to get some hope, but the traditional doctors have not been able to tell me anything to get my nerve and muscle better. My entire skeletal structure has been damaged due to the muscle imbalance, and I am fighting everyday for hope that my shoulder and body will come back.

What can I do? Doctors say they want to do a risky nerve graph from radial nerve, with no idea what success rate is and clear that I would lose part of my tricep and deltoid could get even worse.

The good note is much activity has happened the last 3 months, so I have hope. It's just been so long (18 months) since the shoulder even begin to heal. But I do notice muscle seems to finally be forming from the mere bones just a few months ago. The only thing that has really helped was chi and acupuncture and really good chiropractor.

Thank you

I would keep on with what you are doing. If it was me I'm not sure I would have such a risky surgery, unless it was a possibility of total disability and life threatening. Unfortunately life throws us lots of curve balls, and we often have to change direction. Sometimes healing takes years, and sometimes it never happens. But living does go on, you may just have to adjust your expections. I don't mean to sound negative, just realistic. But if it's improving, there's always hope. Just fight as hard as you can, that's all you can do, it's all anyone can do. The rest is up to God. (Or higher power, or fate, or whatever you believe it).You have to decide if the risks are worth the benifit in the long term.
