vertigo and pain for eleven years

I need  to know if my vertigo is caused by nerve damage, since when I push inside my mouth on my gums with a pen I can send sensations of cold water dripping or bugs crawling up the side of my jaw, around my eyes and down the side of my nose.  Strangely, my vertigo subsides for hours and on rare occasions even days after pushing here.  However, it is a puzzle to guess exactly what angle and what spot to push.

I have been to see at least five ENT specialists who and has countless tests of which I cannot even remember the names.  Inner ear problems as well as MS have been ruled out and I had given up until by chance a dentist who specializes in TMJ told me that what I have been pushing on was a nerve.  No other doctor  has been approached with this information yet; however, the TMJ specialist is trying to set me up through a  personal connection with a friend of his who is a  facial nerve specialist.  This appointment is kind of a long shot, and I am worried it will fall through.  Where I live, it will take at least three months to see my doctor and then at least that long again to get into a specialist.  I was hoping to get a medical opinion via this forum sooner because after such a long duration of this condition that was seemingly invisible to medicine, I am craving a diagnosis or hope therof as soon as possible.

Hi.

Has your condition been evaluated by a physician?

Vertigo is most commonly associated with a vestibular disorder in the ear, not the nerves in or around the oral cavity. I would advise you not to continue pushing against your gums with a pen as this might lead to an injury of some sort.

You should try and consult an ENT doctor to first have an evaluation done on your vestibular system to rule out any disorder that might be causing your condtion.

Good luck.
