does pysical therapy help a person regain mobility if she has brain damage and is paralyzed

7 months ago ,my daughter contacted swine flu . she was 8 months pg.baby was taken c-section 10 weeks early .baby is doing fine.was 2lb.13oz. now 12lb. 14 oz.praise God! baby was protected. but my daughter wasn't so lucky.she was in a vegastated coma for 5 weeks . this is what she has regained since sept.2009. now she is off life support.breathing on her own .she still has a trache, feeding tube.she knows who family is .she makes eye contact and when asked yes or no questions she answers by bleeking or sticking her tongue out . dr's say she has anoxia brain damage from lack of oxegen. they today fitted her for a wheelchair. she only has a little movement in fingers and wrists. will therapy ,regain any mobility with therapy? it seems to be really painfull for her when she is forced to move extremities.she has never seen the baby. she is constantly fighting multiple infections

Thank you very much for your question; although it is quite hard for me to give you a precise opinion here without being able to examine her, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about her health concern.

If rehabilitation program (physical therapy) is appropriately instituted, most of the patients can regain maximum functions with appropriate therapy, training and support services. For coordinated rehabilitation program a team of a neurologist, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist and a speech-language pathologist, a nutritionist work together to help you in your recovery. Therefore, I would suggest following the suggestion made by them and recovery will be although slow but most of the functions may be restored. Hope this helps.
