There are two oral surgeons in Tyler Tx who are knowledgeable with regard to Eagle's Syndrome. Dr. Barry G. Acker, DDS and Dr. Will Parks DDS. 903-526-7977
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your sister’s medical problems. Eagle syndrome is suspected if the patient has triad of symptoms: unilateral neck pain, sore throat and tinnitus. CT scan with 3D reconstruction is the ideal imaging technique to diagnose it. If only the styloid process is elongated (classic form of Eagle’s syndrome) then styloidectomy or removal of styloid process is the treatment. If the elongated styloid process touches the extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA), then it may cause injury or kinking of the artery causing stroke like symptoms (vascular form). A vascular surgeon is required for repairing the ICA then.
The ENT specialist your sister is seeing can refer her to an ENT surgeon or a neurosurgeon for this. Also a vascular surgeon may be needed at the time of operation. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!
