elevated protein in CSF--help!

elevated protein in CSF--help!

I have been experiencing some slight disequilibrium, muscle weakness in legs and arms, and twitching for about 8 weeks.  Sometimes I'm fine, sometimes it's just one thing, sometimes it's all of them.  Brain MRI and spinal MRI came back normal.  Spinal tap came back normal except for mildly elevated total protein--it was 53 and normal is 45 and under.  I've seen two neuros who say I don't have MS and that 53 isn't significant.  They diagnosed anxiety and put me on Zoloft a month ago.  I saw an infectious diseases doc who thinks that the 53 is significant.

Is 53 cause for alarm?

Thanks,
Chris
