I am a 57 yr old female who has progressively worsening pain in and around my right eye, tho the pain is mild and remains at a 5-6 out of 10. At first the pain was barely noticeable but intensified right after I had an intense eye check and retinal photography etc all on the same day. The pain is worse with exposure to light, eyeball movements ,computer work and fatigue. An opthalmologist discovered edema of the optic disc. The intravenous fluorescin angiogram showed congested vessels. Field of vision charting was totally normal and visual acuity remained unchanged.
An MRI of the orbits showed " retroocular enhancement of the right eye on the FAT SAT contrast enhanced axial and coronal views. Also a 0.5 cm x 1.05 cm meningioma is present at the planum sphenoidale." However the meningioma is not encroaching uopn the optic chiasma, therefore is not accountable for the eye symptoms. The lateral wall of the cavernous sinus on the right side is slightly irregular.
A previous MRI of the brain showed the same meningioma and was sized as 0.49 cm x 0.97 cm. The two MRIs were not obtained using the same size image cuts.
The surgeon has recommended removal of the meningioma but my eye condition remains undiagnosed.
Do I need to have this tumor removed if it has not grown in size in 1 year? what could be causing the eye symptoms?
