gross motor skills

my 10 month old will not go into a seated positon, she will not crawl or cruise.  She will seat unsupported with no problem.  we had ECI doing therapy for torticollis, which she just recently was cleared from.  therapist and the pediatrician don't seem too conserned yet.  Should we be worried?  Could the torticollis, which was severe, delay her gross motor skill development to the point that she doesn't crawl or cruise.?

Hi there. The developmental milestones usually should be achieved within 2 or 3 months of expected times in children. Your child is suffering from congenital torticollis which can be due to birth trauma or intrauterine malpositioning of the fetus causing sternocleidomastoid muscle damage. This causes limited range of motion in rotation and lateral bending of the neck. Other causes could be scars, diseases of cervical vertebrae, rheumatism, retropharyngeal abscess and cerebellar tumors. Consult your neurologist to investigate the etiology of torticollis in your child.  Evaluation should include thorough neurological check up and associated developmental dysplasia of hip and clubfoot. If other neurological associated conditions are ruled out and there is no damage to brain on MRI brain, there should be no developmental delay. Hope this helps. Take care.
